#URBANKNITONTHEROAD PART 3

You’ve heard about life at Urban Knit from Kate and Emily, and now it’s my turn…

Ever since I’ve started as the Brand Assistant at Urban Knit, I haven’t sat still. Everyday has brought new challenges and opportunities to learn, which is what I enjoy the most.

I was lucky enough to start at a prime moment to help at our last trade show of the year, Top Drawer at London Olympia. There were lots of things to get involved in, from setting up the stand to closing sales.

The first day was the set up day – Kate and I travelled down to London and met Emily there and we got started straight away. From a blank white canvas, we transformed every inch into an urban oasis with brick walls, copper piping, washing lines full of socks and finished off with wooden trims. This was excellent team building for us. Kate and I became the Number 1 Wallpapering Team in the Country, and Emily’s job title has since been changed to Senior Furniture Assembler. After all our hard work that day, we all completely crashed in the evening.

We had three full days exhibiting our fabulous products which went down a storm. It was great to meet some of our current stockists as well as new and potential stockists. I was also able to be super hands on with all our products, getting to know them inside and out so I know what to expect now that we’ve started developing our next season. During the days we found some time to explore the exhibition, speaking to other likeminded retailers, sussing out the competition and thinking about ways we can develop. We were even able to get to some workshops and lectures that other industry professionals were running. These were invaluable, helping us learn more about the market and how things are changing every day.

So this was a hugely successful trip!

Since we’ve been back in the office, we’ve been developing ideas of how to build Urban Knit. There’s lots of new ideas, products and a fantastic buzz about how we can develop.

To come in as a new member of Urban Knit was not daunting at all. Kate, Emily and Emma have helped me settle in quickly and I’ve loved getting involved with all aspects of the brand. I can’t wait to see where the brand expands to next.
