#UrbanKnitOnTheRoad Part 2

Following on from Kate’s recent post on life as a Brand Manager, it’s my turn to give you an insight into how life at Urban Knit keeps me on my toes.

As the Sales Manager for Urban Knit, my role can range from targeting new customers, securing appointments, finalising orders, forecasting sales, range building for future seasons and thinking of ways to improve our marketing and online presence. That’s the part of my role which is based at Urban Knit HQ, although, time spent at HQ can never be a set plan. You see, if there are urgencies which require all hands on deck, then we all muck in and help one another. We’re not a ‘that’s not my job’ kind of team and it works very well that way.

On the flip side, I can be out of the office, a lot. This role has seen me travel to every corner of the country. From Brighton to Devon, Bristol, Bath, Oxford, Canterbury, Cambridge, York, and everywhere in between. I now know the London Underground like the back of my hand and I’m pretty sure the London Underground knows me… my sales case and I are developing quite the reputation!

Usually, a day out of the office will include at least one sales appointment and whilst I’m out, I will explore local areas to find new independent retailers to bring on board. I will also spec out our competition and the market place in general to understand how we can further grow the brand. If I get talking to locals, they are educated on our brand and how they can order from the Urban Knit website. In between all of that, I might even grab a quick, cheeky snap for our Instagram page using our #urbanknitontheroad hashtag. If you’re not already following us, then our Instagram page is uk_urbanknit.

If I’m not at an appointment, then I will either be representing the brand at trade shows or scouring trade shows to establish any opportunities. Most recently, we exhibited at the Harrogate Home and Gift show, which was a great way to build relationships with new customers and to connect with like-minded business people. We are also exhibiting at Top Drawer at London Olympia (11th – 13th September) so make sure you come and say hello if you’re there.

Going forward, the work I do on UK sales will be expanded into a global territory, so the case and I will be taking on the likes of Scandinavia, the Netherlands, France, Germany and Spain.

There is never a quiet or dull day at Urban Knit. The work we do is all about building a successful brand and our office is always buzzing with new ideas. We are super excited for what lies ahead of us and we hope you are too!
